Backup WordPress Website

Why do you need to back up your WordPress website?

Backups are essential for protecting your WordPress website. Every time a change is made to your site, a backup should be created to prevent losing anything. Backups can be used to restore your site in the event of a major WordPress disaster, such as being hacked or having a plugin/theme conflict. Having multiple backups allows you to restore your site even in the event of a major WordPress disaster. Backups are important to ensure you don’t lose anything, and backing up every time a change is made is the best way to protect yourself.

How often should you back up your WordPress website?

Step 1: Log in to your hosting account and open phpMyAdmin

If you’re using cPanel to manage your WordPress site, make sure to back up your site with phpMyAdmin. This powerful tool can back up all the files and settings on your WordPress site, making it easy to restore if something goes wrong.

Step 2: Find your backup files

To find your backup files, you’ll need to use FileZilla.

Backups will be listed under the “Successful transfers” tab once they’re uploaded.

Backups can take a while to upload, so plan accordingly.

Step 3: Restore the Backup

To restore a backup of your WordPress website, you can:

– Access your remote storage location and save your settings

– Use the “Rescan remote storage” link in the ‘Existing Backups’ tab

– Download the backup set from your remote storage location and upload it into the ‘Existing Backups’ tab

– Use FTP to upload into the UpdraftPlus folder on your destination site (wp-content/updraft by default) and press the “Rescan local folder for new backup sets” link in the ‘Existing Backups’ tab

Step 4: Upload your WordPress backup files

To upload your WordPress backup files, you’ll need to access the File Manager tool via your web host’s cPanel. Before restoring files, delete any existing WordPress files first to avoid any data loss. Import your backup using FTP rather than uploading it directly to your website. This increases the chances of a successful restoration.

You first need to delete the existing files and then import the backup. If the upload fails, restoring files using FTP is a safer option than relying on the uploaded file.

How to restore & recover a WordPress website from backups?

Step 1: Find your backup files

To find and restore backup files, first, download the files from remote storage.

Next, unzip the files and upload them to the desired location.

If plugins were included in your backup, upload them to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder as well.

If you’re not sure which plugin caused the issue, delete all traces of the plugin and install it one by one to see if it fixes the problem.

If your theme was not the source of the issue, upload it to your file manager or FTP.

If you have a child theme, make sure to upload it as well.

To restore your backup, locate the /wp-content/themes/ folder and replace the files with those from your backup. If there are any old files on your server from before you made this backup, delete them before proceeding to the final steps. To restore your backup files, you can simply right-click and delete old files, then upload them back up. FileZilla provides a list of uploaded files under the “Successful transfers” tab

6. Once you have uploaded the backup set, you should see a record of the backup in the “Existing Backups” tab

Step 3: Install and log in to your FTP client

To install or update a plugin or theme, you can use one of the methods described in the previous section.

To restore a WordPress website, you’ll first need to download the latest version of WordPress and extract it to your computer.

Website backup file

If you have a backup of your website, you can restore it using the backup file. After you have downloaded the backup file, you need to unzip it. You will then have a folder with the website files in it. To restore the website, you need to copy the folder to the same location on your computer as the website files. You can then start up the website and it should look the same as it did before the problem occurred.

Backups and restore

Backups are important for keeping your data safe. They allow you to restore your data in case something goes wrong. Backups can be done on a regular basis or when something important happens.

There are many ways to back up data. The most common way is to use a USB drive or an external hard drive. You can also use cloud storage, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. When you back up data, you should always have more than one copy. This way, if one copy is lost or damaged, you will still have another copy.
